Character Name: Georik Zaberisk
Canon: Animamundi

Canon Background: Georik is the oldest child, and only son of the famous physician (and infamous Alchemist outside of Hardland) Count Wolfgang Zaberisk. He grew up as a young aristocrat, purposely kept ignorant of his father’s massive debt, his paternal grandparents’ execution as witches, and his father’s illicit alchemy experiments – instead seeing the man as faultless and wanting to be a doctor just like him. At seventeen he became the youngest person to have ever won the Annual Fencing tournament, beating out his rival and childhood friend Mikhail.

Sadly, while Georik was attending college, his Mother had vanished only for her body to turn up in Kamezene’s river a week later, and soon after his father’s body was discovered in an ally, mutilated beyond all recognition. He was forced to the role of parent, caring for his infant sister while finishing school work. Eventually he took the post as an assistant to the royal physician, and then got promoted when he was the only person willing to treat the Princess when she was inflicted with the deadly plague. Soon, he had to resign to move out to the country due to Lillith’s poor health.

Years later, he started to have dreams of a black-haired devil, and while he was out of the village of Geutrink, the villagers turned on the Zaberisk family and executed Lillith as a witch (with the doctor arriving right when they put her head up on display). To his shock, she was still alive. In a rage, he burned down the village and fled to the city, covering up the truth in a layer of lies as he turned to Alchemy to find a way to cure his sister.

Unfortunately for him, he now back to Assistant Royal Physician, and has to obey a duplicitous man who obviously has a grudge against him, and on top of that Mephistopheles is whispering in his ears with tempting promises that will damn his soul if he agrees to it. What Georik doesn’t know is that he is Lucifer, first of the Fallen, and Mephistopheles is plotting to get his old master back.

Personality: For Georik, he is one of two things: the first is that he is a Doctor. He is known to carry an improbable amount of medical equipment on his person just in case he runs into someone that needs medical attention. And unlike most highborn physicians he is willing to treat peasants and even look at their animals, often free of charge – desiring to see people get better, and lead happy lives. Even if someone is an enemy, and they’re wounded, he will stop to treat them – though he doesn’t exactly have to be nice while handling them, which shows how dedicated he is to the ideas of a Physician.

Another good aspect is his loyalty, though it can lead him to do some truly horrific things in order to protect those he care for. He is overprotective of his sister – often acting more like a father then a brother, having only approved of her fiancé because he was a life-long friend… but granted, this is justified that both his parents were murdered and she is the only family he has left. While he does not trust too many people, even before the incident, those who earned his trust had gain an unfaltering, reliable friend who refused to sell them out even at great personal risk to himself, and later he did not hold a grudge against Mikhail, despite the fact the man had literally beaten Georik half to death due to complicated circumstances. However, if someone betrays his trust, he will not forgive him or her, and will seek revenge, and he tends to see red and act irrationally until his sense of justice is fulfilled.

He does have some sense of honor, though it’s not as in-your-face as Mikhail’s. Georik tends to run towards the sound of someone screaming, even if the chance is strong that he will get overwhelmed, and had once knocked out a purse-snatcher even though he had no reason to get involved, and what’s more, he put some coins into the unconscious man’s hands, assuming that he was a man driven by desperation. After he ended up destroying his village, he felt like he was no longer a fit rival to Mikhail and refuses to raise a sword against him – believing that his blade is too tainted for such purposes.

The man is also insatiably curious, poring through books, and always going to investigate some strange noise he hears, regardless of possible danger. His somewhat unusual non-medical related skills such as the ability to accurately throw knives, or pick locks is most likely the result of his desire for knowledge not being hampered by little things such as legality of the knowledge – if it has a possible, and plausible use, he is willing to give it a chance. On the other hand, he is a bit of a skeptic on paranormal matters, refusing to believe in fortune telling, only participating to humor the teller, out right dismisses mediums as frauds, and was at first certain Alchemy was bunk until he was proven otherwise. Georik also hates people who openly espouse beliefs he knows to be false, scorning Dr. Glening’s assertion that one can taste the health of a person in their blood – and generally such ‘nonsense’ is enough to make him interject with rude comments to question the speaker’s intelligence.

However in most social situations, Georik is polite, but reserved – between the Aristocratic aloofness, and not wanting to accidentally reveal any weaknesses to someone before they could be confided in. He chooses his words carefully, being used to the royal court, where a well-place phrase can make or break a person’s reputation – not wanting to be misunderstand, or worse have whatever he said to be twisted and used against him. Even on his guard, the man shows some wit, cheerfully adding in a clever bon mot if an opening allows for it, and he can he drawn in to discuss literature, medicine, or even philosophy, unable to resist matching wits with other people – though he shies away from Theology at all costs, and tends to argue from a more cynical point of view. On the rare occasion, he is moody and quite withdrawn, too distracted by his sins and burdens to even pay attention to his surroundings.

Once he gets to know someone or if he is sufficiently drunk, he is far more relaxed. He does not hold back on biting remarks, or voicing his opinions, even if they will be unpopular. On top of this, he has a mischievous streak, enjoying minor practical jokes, and has a somewhat ghoulish sense of humor, finding ill Jacobean revenge plays hilarious, and once jokingly suggested to a woman that she can reward his return of her stolen purse by donating her body for science after death. One of his ways to show affection is by teasing people, giving gentle ribbings on people’s shortcomings or hobbies.

Georik is also quite competitive, often making up challenges on the spot during mundane activities, most often just for the fun of it.

There is a darker side to him, one he tries to hide, and suppress, but it doesn’t go away. The doctor is somewhat of a sadist, a fact he find repulsive and shameful, but unfortunately it comes out when he loses his temper, often saying words he knows will deeply wound the target of his ire, or even physically striking them. Georik always regrets it, but he is often too proud and too ashamed to apologize afterwards, preferring to act like it never happened unless forced to confront it. Pride is also another fault, he could never ask for help – seeing it as a sign of weakness, even though he intellectually knows better. If he is confronted by someone he despises and can speak his mind – he lets his cruel side take over, lashing out the nastiest barbs he can think of until the other person leaves or manages to make him shut up by some means.

If there's any possibility of Lucifer coming out to play:

Lucifer is in a way a much simpler character. Lot of his personality is an exaggeration of Georik’s faults – he is the representative of the Sin of Pride for a reason, he carries himself like an emperor and refuses to admit his flaws or bow to another, especially to a human. He also is unashamed of their shared sadism; taking pleasure in watching others squirm and seeing the pain and despair he causes them. The Fallen one is also Spite, driven by a single, white-hot fire of hate towards the god almighty.

He is a manipulator, charming when he desires to be – but it’s all towards his goals of overthrowing the divine. The fallen angel can be incredibly patient if he needs to be, while his body’s mortal, he knows he will be reincarnated so he plays the long game – setting pieces years in advance. To him, everyone is a tool to be used, and while he is not a collector of souls, he gleefully helps humans damn themselves out of a sense of schadenfreude and that it’s usually part of his plans. While he despises humans, he can make exceptions for those who are sufficiently clever, ambitious and intelligent and will dispense with his aloof attitude, even becoming genuinely friendly with those who meet his unrealistically high standards - though even his most loyal subordinates aren't given immunity to his sadism.
